Being a giant, it's hard to find long-sleeved, button-up shirts that fit me around my smallish frame that have arms that are long enough for me in my price range. Of course, once my plans to take over the world take hold I'll have all the long-sleeved, fitted shirts I want! ALL OF THEM! Moving on...
I had a long-sleeved, button-up, white shirt with arms that were to short. I decided enough wass enough and turned it into a sleeveless button-up, and used the arm material to make a detachable floppy bow. Here's how I did it.
Step 1) I cut off the sleeves on the inside of the seam.
Step 2) I flipped it inside-out, pinned the new seam, and sewed in down.
Repeat on the other arm.
Step 3) I then took the arm I had just cut off and cut the end seam off along with the side seam, evening the width of the arm fabric that I would use for a bow. I also cut off the cuff to use as an attachment mechanism for the bow.
Repeat on other arm fabric.
Step 4) I sewed both sides of the bows and flipped them inside-out to hide the sewn seam.
Step 5) I folded both sides of the bow and tacked them in place and got the two cuff ready to attach to the finished bow.
Step 6) I crossed the bows over a piece of fabric meant to be the middle of the bow. Then, I hot glued the middle together in the back of the bow, holding it all in place.
Step 7) I glued the cuff attachment to the middle-back of the bow.
Here's the completed bow, ready to button-on under the collar of any shirt. I'll show you how I styled it tomorrow.
Tomorrow's post: Wearing my floppy bow.
